Scheme launches next week!
Only one in five people has heard of the Green Deal – despite the fact it launches in less than a week.
A poll conducted for uSwitch by YouGov found that only 19% had heard of the government’s flagship Green Deal scheme, which launches on Monday 28th January.
If you’re one of the majority that haven’t heard of the Green Deal, it’s a government scheme which means that you can make your home or business more energy-efficient with no upfront costs.
Under the Green Deal you can get a loan to cover the cost of installing things like insulation, solar panels, lighting and lighting controls which will cut your energy usage, which you then repay via your electricity bills.
The idea is that the savings you make on your energy bills by being more energy efficient will cover the cost of the loan repayments.
This lack of awareness doesn’t bode well for uptake of the scheme if it is to fulfil the flagship status for which it was designed.
Clearly there needs to be a big campaign to introduce people to the Green Deal and the potential benefits. The government is set to spend £2m on promoting the Green Deal, and for our own part, we will be launching the Business Juice guide to the Green Deal for businesses in the next few days. It should give you all the background information you need on the scheme to decide if it’s something your business can benefit from.
