Earlier today news broke that the website The Big Deal (thisisthebigdeal.com) had uncovered an alleged culture amongst the UK’s price comparison of “hiding” the best energy deals.
The Big Deal’s investigation focussed on the domestic energy market and players such as Compare the Market, Go Compare, uSwitch, MoneySupermarket and Confused.
The Big Deal have found that when these websites ask a customer whether they want to switch “today” that the deals for which the comparison websites do not earn commission are filtered out. The Big Deal alleges that the customer cannot switch “today” because the price comparison website does not have a commercial agreement in place with that supplier to pay them commission.
The Big Deal have written to each of the price comparison websites asking them to cease this activity forthwith.
As well as writing to the price comparison websites themselves, The Big Deal have asked:
“Government to take action, the Competition and Markets Authority to expand their inquiry into the energy market to include these sites and the EU Competition Commission to investigate their actions”
